Cheri Alexander began as a Researcher 3 in November 1984 when
SERB was just beginning to design its mandated research function.
In May 1989 she was promoted to section administrator. Immediately
before coming to SERB she worked under a personal service contract
for the Ohio Office of Collective Bargaining. Prior to that she
was Research Analyst for the Hawaii Government Employees Association
(HGEA, an AFSCME affiliate) in Honolulu, researching collective
bargaining data and writing proposal language in preparation
for negotiations for their first public employee contracts. She
also worked for two legislative sessions in the Hawaii State
Legislature as a Committee Clerk and Administrative Assistant
to a state legislator representing Kona. She was certified as
a substitute teacher in Hawaii and taught in Honolulu public
schools. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in International
Studies from The Ohio State University.
